Periodontal Services (Hygiene)

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the gums and bone around the teeth. It is caused by plaque that contains bacteria that forms below and at the gumline. If it’s not removed, the bacteria invades the root surfaces of the teeth causing toxins to form and destroying gum and bone tissue. You may have gum disease and not even know it because it is rarely painful in its early stages. We often diagnose gum disease in its early stages and our hygienists are fully trained in periodontal therapies to help eliminate disease and get our patients on their way to healthy gums and teeth. This is also important since the bone and gums are the foundation for the teeth themselves. We find that some patients have never had a thorough periodontal exam and the importance of gum health has previously been overlooked.
