The Foundation of a Healthy Smile
A dental checkup is more than a cleaning. It is your best opportunity to stay ahead of problems before they become painful, complex, or costly to treat. At Smile Dentistry, every checkup includes a professional cleaning, digital X-rays, a comprehensive examination, and an oral cancer screening — all delivered by a team that takes the time to explain what they find and what it means for you.

Your Whole Family, Under One Roof
From infants and toddlers to teens and adults, Smile Dentistry provides comprehensive checkup and hygiene care for every member of your family. We offer family scheduling so your household can be seen together — fewer trips, less time spent coordinating, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing everyone's care is being managed by the same trusted team.
Comfort Is Always Part of the Visit
Routine does not mean uncomfortable. Our hygiene team uses state-of-the-art equipment to deliver a cleaning experience patients regularly describe as spa-like. And for patients who experience anxiety about dental visits of any kind, sedation is available for checkups and cleanings — just like it is for every other service we offer. All five of our doctors are sedation certified, and your comfort is always a priority.

Come In for a Cleaning, Leave With a Brighter Smile
Your checkup appointment is also an opportunity to enhance your smile. Custom teeth whitening is available alongside your hygiene visit — so you can leave with a noticeably brighter smile without scheduling a separate appointment. A simple, rewarding way to make the most of your time in the chair.
How Often Should I Go to the Dentist?
For most patients, a checkup and cleaning every six months is the standard recommendation. However, the right interval depends on your individual oral health, and your doctor will advise on what makes the most sense for you. You may benefit from more frequent visits if you:
- Have a history of gum disease or are currently managing it
- Are prone to cavities or have had significant dental work in the past
- Have a medical condition that affects your oral health, such as diabetes or dry mouth
- Are pregnant, as hormonal changes can increase the risk of gum inflammation
- Have not seen a dentist in a long time and are getting back on track

Keep Your Teeth Healthy Between Visits
What you do at home between appointments matters just as much as what we do in the chair. Here are the habits that make the biggest difference:
- Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, for at least two minutes each time
- Floss once a day to remove plaque and debris from between teeth and along the gumline — areas your toothbrush cannot reach
- Limit sugary and acidic foods and drinks, which weaken enamel and accelerate decay over time
- Stay hydrated with water throughout the day to support saliva production, which naturally protects your teeth
- Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed
- Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth — ask your doctor if this is right for you

What to Expect During Your Dental Checkup
Teeth Cleaning
Your appointment begins with a professional cleaning by one of our hygienists. Using state-of-the-art instruments, they remove plaque and tartar buildup from all surfaces of your teeth — including areas that regular brushing and flossing cannot reach. Your teeth are then polished to remove surface staining and leave your smile feeling fresh and smooth.
Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays give us a detailed view of what is happening beneath the surface — between teeth, below the gumline, and within the bone. They help us identify decay, bone changes, and other concerns that are invisible to the naked eye. Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film and produce instant, high-resolution images that we can review with you chairside.
Dental Exam
Your doctor will complete a comprehensive clinical examination, assessing each tooth individually as well as the health of your gums, bite, jaw, and existing restorations. Using your X-rays and photographs alongside their clinical findings, they will explain exactly what they observe and discuss any recommended treatment clearly and without pressure.
Oral Cancer Screening
An oral cancer screening is included at every checkup at Smile Dentistry. Your doctor examines the soft tissues of your mouth, throat, and neck for any changes or abnormalities that warrant further assessment. Early detection is the most important factor in successful treatment outcomes — this is a step we take seriously at every visit.
EMS Airflow Polishing
Our hygiene rooms are equipped with the EMS Airflow system, which uses a precise, controlled stream of air, water, and fine powder to remove biofilm, staining, and debris from every surface of your teeth, including the areas a rubber cup simply cannot reach. No friction. No pressure. Just a thorough, comfortable clean that leaves your mouth feeling noticeably different.
