A Smile That Looks Like You, Only Better
Veneers are thin, custom-crafted shells bonded to the front surface of your teeth to correct a wide range of cosmetic concerns — discolouration, chips, gaps, uneven edges — each addressed with artistry and precision. Whether that means a porcelain veneer designed in a lab, a digitally printed restoration crafted in-house, or composite bonding applied directly to the tooth, the goal is always the same: a result that looks like it belongs.
We offer multiple options because no two smiles are the same. Your doctor will explain which approach fits your goals, your timeline, and what makes the most clinical sense for your specific teeth.

Trained at the Highest Level
Cosmetic dentistry is the foundation of our practice — and smile design is a discipline that demands advanced training. Our doctors have pursued extensive continuing education in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, including the Kois curriculum. Dr. Hansford has been named a Distinguished Mentor by The Kois Centre in Seattle, one of only twenty-two in Canada. That level of expertise is reflected in every result we deliver.
Comfort Is Part of Every Cosmetic Appointment
Veneer preparation and placement should be comfortable, and at Smile Dentistry, comfort is never an afterthought. Sedation is available for cosmetic procedures at every level — laughing gas, oral sedation, and IV sedation. Many patients choose to complete their full veneer treatment in a single, relaxed appointment. All five of our doctors are sedation-certified, so your options are always open.

Everything Done Right Here
From digital scans and smile design to fabrication and final placement, your veneer treatment is managed entirely at Smile Dentistry. Our in-house 3D printing capability means certain restorations can be designed, printed, and placed without the delays of an external lab. For porcelain work, we maintain close quality control through every stage. You stay with the same trusted team from your first consultation to your final appointment.
When It Is Time to Consider Veneers
Veneers are a strong solution for a wide range of cosmetic concerns. They may be right for you if:
- Your teeth are permanently stained or discoloured and whitening has not delivered the result you were hoping for. Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining and can achieve a shade that bleaching alone cannot reach.
- You have chips, cracks, or worn edges that affect the appearance of your smile. Veneers restore the shape and surface of the tooth with a result that looks completely natural and holds up over time.
- You have small gaps between your teeth or teeth that are slightly uneven in size or shape. Veneers can close gaps and create a more balanced, symmetrical smile — often without orthodontic treatment.
- You are ready for a complete smile transformation. Full-mouth veneer cases are one of the most powerful options in cosmetic dentistry, and our doctors have the advanced training to plan and execute them with precision.

Our Veneer Options
Every patient is different, and the right veneer depends on your goals, your existing tooth structure, and the outcome you are looking for. Our doctors will give you options so you can make the choice that makes sense for you.
Porcelain Veneers
Custom-fabricated from high-quality dental ceramic, porcelain veneers mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural enamel. They are highly stain-resistant, durable, and crafted to match the colour and translucency of your surrounding teeth. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last ten to twenty years. An excellent choice for patients who want the most permanent, lifelike result and are ready for a long-term commitment.
3D Printed Veneers
Using advanced digital scanning and 3D printing technology, we design and fabricate custom veneers right here, without the wait of an external lab. 3D printed veneers require minimal to no enamel removal, are designed to match your facial features and smile goals.
The high-performance esthetic resin provides a natural gloss finish, flexibility, and strength for everyday life. They are also easy to repair or replace if needed, making them a practical and cost-accessible option for the right candidate.
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are applied directly to the tooth chairside, addressing many of the same concerns as porcelain — chips, discolouration, minor gaps — without laboratory fabrication. A more accessible option that still delivers a natural, beautiful result.
Cosmetic Bonding
Bonding is one of the most versatile options in cosmetic dentistry. Using a tooth-coloured composite resin, we can correct chips, close small gaps, reshape uneven teeth, and cover discolouration ,often in a single visit, with no removal of natural tooth structure.
It is a conservative, lower-commitment starting point for patients who want to improve their smile before deciding on a more permanent solution.
Minimal-Prep Veneers
For appropriate candidates, little to no enamel removal is required. Your doctor will assess whether this option is suitable during your consultation and explain the differences clearly so you can make a fully informed decision.

How Veneers Redesign Your Smile
Smile Design
Your veneer journey begins with a detailed consultation. Your doctor will take photographs, digital scans, and X-rays to assess your teeth and understand your goals. A customized smile plan is developed — considering the shape, size, colour, and proportion of your veneers in relation to your face, your lips, and your natural teeth. You will have a clear picture of your expected result before any preparation begins.
Choosing Your Option
Not all veneers follow the same path. For porcelain, preparation involves a thin layer of enamel removal and temporary veneers while your restorations are fabricated. For 3D printed veneers, digital scans feed directly into our printing system — no lab wait and often no enamel removal.
For composite veneers and cosmetic bonding, material is applied directly to your teeth chairside, with no separate fabrication step at all. Your doctor will walk you through exactly what your chosen option involves before anything begins.
Temporary Veneers (for porcelain)
Once your teeth are prepared, temporary veneers are placed to protect them and give you a preview of your new smile. This stage allows for refinements to shape or fit before your permanent veneers are fabricated — an important opportunity to ensure the final result is exactly what you envisioned.
Placement and Refinement
When your veneers are ready — whether that means the same day or a follow-up appointment — they are bonded or set carefully to your teeth. Your doctor checks the fit, the colour, and your bite before finalizing placement, refining every detail until everything is exactly right.
Your New Smile
You leave with a smile that looks, feels, and functions beautifully. Your doctor will provide guidance on caring for your results, and any follow-up needed will be scheduled before you go.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is cosmetic bonding the same as a composite veneer?
They use the same material, but the technique differs. Composite veneers are thin, pre-shaped shells that cover the full front surface of the tooth. Bonding is applied freehand, tooth by tooth, to correct specific concerns like chips, gaps, or staining. Both can be completed without removing natural tooth structure and are easier to repair than porcelain.
What are 3D printed veneers and how are they different?
3D printed veneers use advanced digital scanning and in-house printing technology to fabricate custom restorations without an external lab. Compared to porcelain, they are more affordable and require little to no enamel removal. They use high-performance esthetic resin that provides a natural gloss finish and flexibility. For patients who want a reversible or lower-commitment option before committing to porcelain, they are an excellent middle ground.
How do I get started with veneers?
Book a consultation at either our Valleyview or Downtown location. We are currently welcoming new patients, same-day and same-week appointments are available, and there is no pressure — just an honest conversation about what is possible for your smile.
Can I get veneers if I grind my teeth?
Grinding can affect the longevity of veneers. If you grind your teeth, your doctor will discuss this during your consultation and may recommend a night guard to protect your investment. In some cases, addressing the grinding first is the right place to start.
How many appointments does the veneer process take?
Typically two to three appointments — a consultation and smile design, a preparation and temporary veneer appointment, and a final placement visit. Your doctor will give you a clear timeline during your consultation.
Is the veneer process painful?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during preparation. Local anesthesia is used throughout, and sedation is available at every level for patients who prefer additional comfort. Many patients are surprised by how manageable the process is.
Are veneers covered by insurance?
Veneers are generally considered a cosmetic procedure and are not typically covered by dental insurance. All costs are presented to you clearly in writing before any treatment begins so you can make an informed decision.
Can veneers be whitened?
No. Porcelain and composite veneers do not respond to whitening treatments. This is why whitening should always be completed before veneers are placed — your veneers will be colour-matched to your whitened shade at the time of fabrication.
Do veneers require special care?
Veneers are cared for just like natural teeth — brush twice daily, floss regularly, and attend your routine checkups and cleanings. We recommend avoiding habits that put excess pressure on your veneers, such as biting fingernails or opening packaging with your teeth. A night guard may be recommended if you grind your teeth.
Will veneers look natural?
Yes. Our doctors take a detailed approach to colour matching, shaping, and proportioning every veneer to complement your natural features. The goal is always a result that looks like it belongs — not like dental work.
How long do veneers last?
Porcelain and eMax veneers typically last ten to twenty years with proper care. Composite veneers have a shorter lifespan but can be repaired or replaced more easily. Your doctor will give you a realistic timeline based on the option you choose.
Are veneers permanent?
Veneer placement involves the removal of a thin layer of enamel, which means the process is irreversible. Your teeth will always require a veneer or other restoration after preparation. This is an important consideration your doctor will discuss with you in full during your consultation.
