We Are Ready When You Need Us
Our practice is designed and equipped to offer same-day procedures to address your immediate dental concerns. We make urgent care a priority and have appointments available — often the same day or next day — across both our Valleyview and Downtown locations.
When you call, our team will assess your situation, get you booked as quickly as possible, and make sure you know exactly what to expect before you arrive. You will not be left waiting, wondering, or managing pain longer than necessary.

Multiple Doctors, Real Availability
Most practices are limited by a single provider's schedule. At Smile Dentistry, five doctors across two locations means genuine same-day flexibility — not a waitlist. When an emergency arises, we have the capacity to respond.
Sedation Available for Emergency Appointments
Dental emergencies are already stressful. You should not have to manage anxiety on top of pain. Sedation is available for emergency procedures at every level — laughing gas, oral sedation, and IV sedation. All five of our doctors are sedation certified, so if you need help relaxing through your appointment, that option is ready for you.

The Same Standard of Care, Every Time
An emergency appointment at Smile Dentistry is not a rushed, bare-minimum visit. You will receive the same thorough, attentive care you would expect from any other appointment — because a dental emergency deserves to be treated properly, not just managed quickly.
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
If you are unsure whether your situation requires urgent care, the answer is simple: call us. We will help you determine the right course of action. Common dental emergencies include:
- Severe or persistent tooth pain
- A knocked-out or partially dislodged tooth
- A cracked, broken, or fractured tooth
- A lost filling or crown leaving a tooth exposed
- Significant swelling in the mouth, jaw, or face
- A dental abscess or signs of infection
- Soft tissue injury involving the lips, gums, or tongue
When in doubt, call. Delaying treatment for a true emergency can turn a manageable problem into a significantly more complex one.

What to Do Before You Arrive
While you are waiting for your appointment, the following steps can help manage your discomfort and protect the affected area:
- Toothache: Rinse with warm salt water and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the tooth or gum.
- Knocked-out tooth: Handle it by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently without scrubbing and keep it moist — in milk, saline, or between your cheek and gum. Time is critical. Call us immediately.
- Cracked or broken tooth: Rinse with warm water and apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on the affected side.
- Lost filling or crown: Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. A temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the tooth until your appointment.
- Swelling or abscess: Apply a cold compress and call us immediately. Do not attempt to drain an abscess at home. Signs of spreading infection require urgent care.

What to Expect at Your Emergency Appointment
Your Call
When you contact us, our team will gather the details of your situation, advise on any immediate steps to take, and get you booked for the earliest available appointment. Same-day availability is our priority for urgent cases.
Arrival and Assessment
When you arrive, your doctor will assess the affected area thoroughly — taking X-rays and any additional imaging needed to understand the full picture. You will be informed of what is happening and what your options are before any treatment begins.
Immediate Pain Relief
Getting you out of pain is the first priority. Local anesthesia and sedation are available immediately. Your doctor will not proceed with treatment until you are comfortable.
Emergency Treatment
Depending on your situation, treatment may include an extraction, a temporary or permanent restoration, root canal therapy, drainage of an abscess, or stabilization of a dislodged tooth. Where possible, your doctor will complete definitive treatment in the same appointment rather than sending you home with a temporary fix.
Your Follow-Up Plan
Before you leave, your doctor will outline any follow-up care needed and answer all of your questions. If additional treatment is required, it will be scheduled promptly. You will leave with a clear plan — and significantly less pain than when you arrived.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an after hours emergency line?
If you are a patient of record and are having a dental emergency or a conflict with a scheduled appointment, please call our after-hours line at 778-471-5996, or please email us at info@smilekamloops.com.
How do I reach you in an emergency?
Call or book online. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM at both locations. For after-hours emergencies involving severe swelling, difficulty breathing, or spreading infection, go to your nearest emergency room.
What if I need follow-up treatment after my emergency?
Your doctor will outline any additional treatment needed before you leave your emergency appointment. Follow-up care is scheduled promptly so your situation is fully resolved, not just temporarily managed.
Do you accept insurance for emergency appointments?
Yes. We work with all insurance providers. Our team will assist with your coverage information and ensure you have a clear picture of any costs before treatment begins.
Will I receive the same quality of care at an emergency appointment?
Yes. Emergency appointments at Smile Dentistry are held to the same standard as every other visit. You will receive a thorough assessment, clear communication, and complete care — not a rushed or temporary solution.
Can a dental abscess wait?
No. A dental abscess is an infection that can spread to surrounding tissue and, in serious cases, beyond the mouth. It requires prompt attention. If you have swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing alongside dental pain, contact us immediately or go to an emergency room.
How do I know if my situation is a true dental emergency?
If you are in significant pain, have visible swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, or signs of infection, it is an emergency. If you are unsure, contact us — our team will help you determine the right course of action.
What if my tooth gets knocked out?
Time is critical. Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root, and keep it moist — in milk, saline, or between your cheek and gum. Contact us immediately. The sooner you are seen, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
Is sedation available for emergency appointments?
Yes. Sedation is available for emergency procedures at every level. If anxiety is a concern alongside your pain, let our team know when you call and we will make sure the right option is ready for you.
What should I do if I have a dental emergency after hours?
Contact us and follow the instructions provided. If you are experiencing severe swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or signs of a spreading infection, seek care at your nearest emergency room immediately.
Do you offer same-day emergency appointments?
Yes. We make urgent care a priority and have same-day appointments available regularly across both our Valleyview and Downtown locations. Contact us as early as possible for the best availability.
